だるまとは？ / What Is a Daruma?
だるまは、禅宗の開祖・達磨大師をかたどった縁起物です。起き上がりこぼしのように倒しても起き上がる形から、「七転び八起き」の象徴とされ、忍耐や努力、成功を意味します。
A daruma is a traditional Japanese dollmodeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism. Designed to alwaysreturn to an upright position, it symbolizes perseverance and success—”falldown seven times, get up eight.”
願いを込める方法 / How to Make a Wish with a Daruma
だるまは、両目が空白の状態で販売されます。まず願いごとを思い浮かべながら片方の目を 描きます。そして、願いが叶ったらもう片方の目を描き入れます。
A daruma comes with both eyes blank. Youfill in one eye while making a wish or setting a goal. When your wish isfulfilled, you draw in the other eye as a sign of gratitude and accomplishment.
